FAQ
Below is a selection of the most frequently asked questions that we get asked about our services. Have a look through them and if you can’t find an answer to your question then please feel free to contact us.
Lash Extensions are applied with specially designed tweezers by the artist, by dipping an extension (or one fan of finer extensions) into a small amount of Lash Adhesive and is then applied approximately 1-2mm from the base of one natural lash. This allows your natural lash to continue its growth cycle as normal.
When applied correctly, Eyelash Extensions will not damage your natural lashes. One extension (or one fan of finer extensions) is applied to only one natural lash, this allows your natural lash to continue its growth cycle without any interruptions. We also consider the length and thickness of your natural lashes before applying an extension, so we will never recommend anything that is going to be too thick or heavy for your lashes and weigh them down which can lead to possible damage over a long term.
YES! Contrary to popular belief, you can wet your lashes. You do NOT have to wait 48 or even 24 hours to do this, you can wet them right away as they’re fully cured by the time you leave our salon. We also encourage regular cleansing with our approved lash safe cleanser.
Eyelash extensions are suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds! We treat clients from 16 (with parents permission) all the way to up to ladies in their 90’s! It doesn’t matter who you are, if you want to feel confident every day, lashes may be for you!
Whether you want them done for your special occasion or every day wear the option is yours! There are a few instances where you may be an unsuitable candidate for eyelash extensions such as;
- You have had a previous allergic reaction to eyelash extension products
- You have an eye infection or condition that affects your eyes/lashes
- You have recently had cosmetic surgery or treatments such as cosmetic eyeliner tattoo
- You can’t lie on your back for extended periods of time
- You can’t keep your eyes still and completely closed for any reason
Lash Extensions will last as long as your natural lashes do if the correct aftercare advice is followed. It can take up to 6-8 weeks for one single natural lash to go through its entire life cycle. On average we lose 10-15 natural lashes per eye, per week. Due to this, we recommend refills every 2-3 weeks.
Lash Extensions are made from PBT (also known as polybutylene terephthalate) which is a thermoplastic engineering polymer that is used in a wide variety of products. Lash Extensions are made out of the same material as some make-up brushes! Your Lash Extensions have a tapered, soft, matte finish to mimic the appearance of a natural lash.
When Lash Extensions are applied correctly, safely and with care; the application process will not hurt, and they should not cause any discomfort or irritation down the track. How your eyes feel now without extensions, is how they should feel with extensions! However if you do happen to feel any discomfort at all during the application process its important to let your technician know straight away! Sometimes a simple adjustment is all that is needed to get rid of any discomfort!
We have a number of options from every day wear to full glamour! Assess why you are wanting to get your lashes done? Do you wear makeup every day? Are you looking for something more natural to enhance your features or something more dramatic? We have many examples of all of our sets to see on our website and social media and if you are still unsure book in a consultation with one of our amazing technicians where we can discuss and give you a recommendation based on our assessment of your lashes and desires!
Yes you can wear mascara with your Lash Extensions as long as it is a Whiplash’d approved product! Most mascaras aren’t suitable for use with lash extensions, which is why we do the hard work for you and research a product that has been put to the test and is safe to use with Lash Extensions.
NOTE: It is important that you also cleanse your lashes with a Whiplash’d approved lash cleanser to remove the mascara at the end of the day to prevent build up, bacteria, and infection. It is also important that you arrive to your lash appointments with clean lashes (lash extensions won’t stick to dirty lashes, and we do not include cleansing time in any lash appointments as this is your responsibility to ensure lashes are cleansed).
Yes absolutely! If you do not wish to refill your lash extensions, they will just fall out as your natural lashes continue their life cycle. We do find most people get addicted and come back for regular refills though due to how amazing they look and how much time they save from your morning routine!
Definitely! Most clients will start with a Classic Set and build up volume by upgrading through refills! This is a very cost and time effective option for many clients!
Yes we sure do in salon on all services! Minimum spend of $80 required.
We recommend patch tests at least 48 hours prior to an appointment to help find out whether you may have a reaction or not, but as reactions can occur at any time no matter how long you have been getting Lash extensions for- there is no guarantee that passing a patch test will ensure no future reactions. Common symptoms of a reaction could include redness, swelling/puffiness, dry skin/flaking or itchiness around the eye area within 72 hours. If you experience this, we recommend seeking professional medical advice.
To find out if we can refill Lashes from another salon, we will firstly need to book you in for a consultation. At the consultation appointment, we will assess the lashes that you currently have on, and look at the application technique, as well as the length and thickness of the lashes. The lashes must be applied to only one single natural lash and must be an appropriate weight for your natural lashes to hold. Once we have decided whether we can refill or not, we will look at what the next step is whether it be a refill, or a removal and new set.

Just like the hair on your head your natural lashes get oily and dirty, if we are avoiding the eye area with our normal face cleansers we need to be adding a lash safe cleanser for this area. We have tiny little oil glands at the base of our eyelashes constantly producing oil and as we know oil and eyelash extensions don’t mix! If your lashes do get oily this can cause the lash extensions to slip off prematurely. Our lashes are our bodies first defence to stop any foreign object, dust, dirt ect from getting in our eyes. In turn we need to be cleaning all of this out of our lashes regularly to stop any build up forming. If we don’t do this this build up can cause a condition called Blepharitis which is when our oil glands along the lash line get clogged causing irritation and redness.
We do ask that you arrive to your appointment with clean lashes, this is important! If you were to arrive with heavy eye makeup we would have to spend time cleansing this off and it would take time out of your appointment. We would also not be able to guarantee your eyelash extensions will last due to any possible residue that your makeup has left behind that we cannot see such as oil, glycol and glycerin.
We also ask that you avoid any lash serums, oil or petroleum based products (such as vaseline or moisturisers) and waterproof mascaras in the 48 hours leading up to your appointment. All of these products can interfere with the way the eyelash extension bonds to the natural lash causing poor retention.
Its also best to avoid getting lashes if you have had an eyelash lift in the past 6 weeks.
The length of lash extensions that we can use on you depends on your natural lashes. As a general rule of thumb we can only go up to 3mm longer than your natural lashes. This is for the health and safety of your natural lashes, it has been proven that lashes too long for your natural lashes over time can cause too much stress on the hair follicle and cause a condition called Traction Alopecia, or to put it simply your lashes may not grow back! We are committed to putting your lash health first so you can keep getting lash extensions for years and years with no issues! We have different curls available, so we may decide a more noticeable curl in a more suitable length will give you the result you’re wanting, safely.
We are confident that our consultation process will help us be on the same page prior to starting your set, however if something doesn’t go to plan we always recommend waiting 24-48 hours before deciding that you absolutely hate your lashes. For some people eyelash extensions can be a big adjustment if you’re not someone who wears makeup very often or very dramatic makeup! As time progresses you do visually adjust to your lashes and they become part of you. In the unlikely event that you do hate your lashes let us know! While our 48 hour guarantee only covers workmanship and not change of mind adjustments can be made during refills and removals are free of charge for Whiplash’d clients!
Eyelash extensions are simply not a one size fits all product! Our Russian Volume set is up to 4D and our Ultimate Russian Volume set is 5D-10D. However because your natural lashes have three cycles of growth all growing at different times we couldn’t possibly put the same size lash on every single lash that would cause damage. The hand making technique we use for Russian volume allows us to tailor each extension to each natural lash allowing each lash to be lashed appropriately with a Russian volume lash that it can hold safety without causing damage!
We don’t recommend getting any oil, glycol or glycerin based products on your lashes before or after your appointment, this can effect the way your lashes last and can cause them to come out prematurely. If you were to get a facial after your Lash lift appointment the steam from the facial can cause your lift to drop.
The average person’s natural lash cycle will last for 6-8 weeks, if the aftercare is followed the lift should last until the last lash from that cycle falls out! You will notice around the 5-6 week mark your lashes may look a little bit crazy, don’t worry this is all part of the grow out process as some of your lashes are still lifted and some are growing in straighter!
We do ask that you do not bring anyone to your lash appointment, we do not have the facilities to accommodate children in the salon. We try to provide a relaxing environment for our clients and with your eyes closed it will not be safe to leave your children unattended. Current Covid restrictions also do not allow us room for any extra people in our salon who are not receiving a service.
At the end of your appointment we will give you a disposable brush that you will need to use to brush your lashes into shape. It is important that you do not get your brows wet for the first 24 hours after your appointment, try not to wear anything that will sit tightly over your brows, you don’t want to push or bend them too much.
After your wetting your brows brush them back into place with your brush and it is recommended to use a nourishing aftercare product to keep the hairs healthy and promote new growth.
During the first 24-48 hours after your lash lift your lashes will continue to process and develop for this reason it it very important to avoid putting any products on the lashes, avoid heavy steam, and try to avoid touching or sleeping on your lashes. After this period it is perfectly safe to use products on them, we also recommend using the Elleebana Elleeplex serum to keep your lashes nourished.
While many ladies we’ve lashed will tell you it is perfectly safe to have eyelash extensions applied during pregnancy, we recommend consulting with your doctor first.
Initial appts can take between 1-2 hours to complete depending on your booked service, and we require you to lay still with your shoulders flat. We recommend bringing a supportive pillow if needed to help you be more comfortable. Hormone changes during pregnancy can also impact your lash cycle and retention, some ladies finding their lashes last exceptionally well, and others find their hair growth cycle speeds up immensely!
Lash lifting and Brow Lamination are also a good alternative as they do not take as long as a set of extensions, however during the first trimester you are experiencing more hormonal changes and it is not recommended to perform these services during this time.
Cosmetic tattooing is not recommended to be done during pregnancy for safety reasons.

Brow threading hurts just as much or just as little as any other hair removal process! It is a fast plucking motion so while it may take longer than waxing it is much gentler on the skin and can give a more precise result. If you have quite a low pain tolerance you may find brow threading to be on the more painful side. If you are unsure make an appointment and let us know it is your first time! If you do feel discomfort during the service, we can guarantee the end result makes it all worth it!
If you are someone that gets your lashed refilled every fortnight religiously a lash membership may be for you! We have three different membership tiers each with a different level of savings! The membership will be direct debited from your bank each fortnight and come with a bunch of great savings and benefits!
During brow lamination various chemicals are used on the brow hairs which inevitably also come into contact with the skin. If you have any sensitive, dry skin, eczema, inflamed or easily irritated skin a brow lamination may further irritate the skin and may not be the best service for you.
Yes we do! Gift vouchers are available to purchase online and in salon!
Brow Dye is a longer lasting alternative to brow tinting. Brow dye can last up to 7 days or more depending on your skin type and up to 7 weeks on brow hairs. It is much similar to a Henna brow dye but more cost effective for the client.
